Holidays: Frightful or Delightful?

The holiday season is upon us. This can be an especially challenging time for survivors of child abuse. It is difficult to get over our fantasy of the perfect, Norman Rockwell, holiday family portrait that we never had.

Maybe it's because it's the holidays, so I think it's important, I don't know. But, it seems I've been watching The Blog Carnival Against Child Abuse die a slow death. We can't let it die, Survivors! I'm doing a quicky holiday edition.

Let's use this edition to talk about taking advantage of opportunities to start your own family, initiate new traditions, find balance and practice healthy habits. Do you have any tips for turning the holiday season from frightful to delightful? Please join us and please help keep our carnival alive!

The deadline is midnight Wednesday, December 17 for a Friday, December 19 edition. Hurry! You can submit using this handy link right here. Thanks...and, um Happy Holidays!

Hmmm....I wonder if I'll get my submission in on time. I've got to work today...It could be cutting it close! lol

Hope you and your family are finding your own peace and traditions through the holiday season!

Hugs right back atcha, Mary. And, thanks for joining us for the carnival.

Welcome, Susan. Thanks for reading and leaving a comment.

Peace to you, too, Jade. And don't think you can get out of the carnival that easily. Since I maintain the carnival, every entry that comes in after the deadline, filters right through my e-mail inbox anyway. Go ahead! Send it in late. ;)

Yes, the holidays are a challenge. After four years, they are finally becoming more than just bearable for me. Thank you for the post-- it's always helpful to know that feeling mixed up at the holidays is not a solitary thing. :)

Beth: Thanks for checking back to my blog after such a long time. I think I may have told you that I was hoping to do some sort of book review blog carnival in the fall. As it turned out, we hardly had any blog carnival activity this summer or fall at all.

A place you may want to check is the new Child Abuse Survivor Network. It's at http://childabusesurvivor.ning.com. I think the founder, Mike, is hoping to form some online "book club" sort of discusssions. I am part of this wonderful new group, but I don't want to make any commitments here at the blog until things are a little more stable with my healing.

Best wishes to you.

I must say I posted about my reflecting on holidays on my blog which ended up being a wonderful Christmas...the only time I cried was the day after Christmas when I went and saw Marley and Me with my sister...your profile picture reminds me of my dog and the movie.

Erin: Thanks so much for visiting my blog. My holidays went much better than I anticipated as well. Yay, us! Today is my son's birthday and he wants to go see "Marley and Me." The yellow lab in the photo is our dog, Lyla. My son named her and she is adorable. I just wish I could siphon off some of her energy! ;)
